The Casey Awards celebrate the life and memory of esteemed journalist, author and activist June Callwood, the founder of Casey House, whose six decades of activism spanned a myriad of causes, from poverty and illness to freedom of expression, to women and children in crisis. June Callwood passed away in April of 2007 and is deeply missed by the Casey House community. |
In June's honour, The Casey Awards annually recognize a handful of individuals or organizations that have demonstrated the same brand of pioneering leadership and compassionate commitment on behalf of others. Award recipients share June’s commitment to volunteerism, collaborative decision-making and her steadfast belief in the dignity of every human being.
The Casey Awards are national, non-monetary awards, presented annually at SnowBall, a fundraising event benefiting Casey House.
Who is eligible?
Individuals or organizations whose actions within the fields of HIV/AIDS and or social justice are consistent with the values of June Callwood and Casey House, including:
• Pioneering leadership
• Compassion
• Respect for the individual
• Strong belief in volunteerism
• An ability to work collaboratively
• A commitment to social justice
