About Casey House
The Casey House Board of Directors released its Strategic Plan in June 2007. We are proud to be setting this visionary course for Casey House, targeting not only today’s realities, but ensuring that we can adapt to meet the challenges of HIV/AIDS tomorrow. Casey House Hospice, a world-renowned facility founded in 1988, provides a continuum of care for persons infected and affected by HIV/AIDS through a comprehensive range of palliative and supportive care services in our residential hospice and community programs. Through partnerships with organizations we deliver care in a variety of settings, such as in the home, clinics and a mobile health bus. As the landscape of HIV/AIDS is complex and evolving, Casey House continually adapts its care practices to meet the changing needs of the clients we serve. Casey House is proudly affiliated with St Michael's Hospital.
Casey House is one of the world's first hospices for people with HIV/AIDS. Volunteers inspired by their experience providing palliative care to a friend with cancer rallied in the mid 80's with Toronto activist/writer June Callwood to build a place of care and compassion to meet the needs of people affected by HIV/AIDS. Today, Casey House is a world-renowned facility that provides care in a 13 bed residential program, and sees over 100 clients in the community.
There is no cost for Casey House services. Basic operating expenses for the Casey House Hospice (Residential Program) are funded by an annual grantfrom Ontario's Ministry of Health and Long Term Care. The Community Program, which includes the Home Hospice Program, nursing, counselling, the Resident Care & Comfort Fund, the Volunteer Program, Complementary Therapies, Bereavement Program and other special needs, is funded through individual, community and corporate donations made to Casey House Foundation.
